NOW: Family remembers man who died after bullet ricochets while racoon hunting

FULTON COUNTY, Ind. -- Andrew Boots is being remembered for his love of family, the outdoors, and Christ after a hunting accident on Saturday night.

Boots and a group of friends were out hunting after dark near S.R. 110 and CR 500 in Fulton County, when events took a tragic turn.

One hunter allegedly attempted to hit a racoon climbing a tree, but the bullet struck Boots instead after bouncing off the tree.

Boots, a 31-year-old father and seventh of ten siblings does not have life insurance.

Boot's oldest brother, Steve, has set up a GoFundMe for his services, and was blown away with the amount of support, already raising more than $30,000 that will go to Andrew's wife and two young sons.

Steve Boots, Andrew's brother stated, "At 31 years old, you don’t expect for that to happen and it is one of those things that’s really hard to wrap your head around and just the fact that he’s gone and it’s permanent and I just feel bad for his wife and his two little boys they’re gonna be going through life without a father. She’s gonna be going on without a husband and obviously we’re missing a brother."

The DNR is currently investigating this case, and no foul play is suspected at this time.
