Police identify man killed in shooting on Niles Avenue in South Bend
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – South Bend Police have identified the deceased victim of the shooting on Niles Avenue as 32-year-old Christopher Maurice Chism of South Bend.
The shooting occurred around 3:35 a.m. on Sunday.
Officers were responding to a report of shots being fired.
According to St. Joseph County Metro Homicide, Chism was found dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound.
Officers say they saw a vehicle driving erratically northbound on Niles Avenue. This vehicle was pulled over near Howard St. and Niles Ave and it was discovered that the passenger had a gunshot wound. This individual was transported to the hospital.
A third gunshot victim called 9-1-1 and police were able to locate them near The Pointe at St. Joseph Apartments. The third victim was then sent to the hospital.
The two surviving victims have been identified as 26-year-old Jamere Forrest of South Bend and 25-year old Jarell Seuell of Benton Harbor.
It is believed that the three victims sustained gunshot wounds in the same incident on Niles Avenue.
The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is currently investigating the shooting.
An autopsy for Chism is scheduled for Monday morning in Fort Wayne.
