SOUTH BEND, IND. --The eastbound lanes of the bypass have reopened, hours after two vehicles were involved in a crash.
It happened at the State Road 23 and U.S. 31 South bridge around 5:30 a.m.
St. Joseph County police assistant chief Bill Thompson says two vehicles were involved in a collision under the bridge.
Thompson says a dump truck had a hydraulic malfunction that caused its bed to raise up and struck the bridge.
A semi truck was unable to avoid the dump truck and hit the dump truck.
Both drivers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
INDOT is inspecting the bridge to make sure there are no structural problems.Workers say they are worried that concrete may fall on the bypass. That is why police are rerouting traffic.
Traffic on the bypass are backed up all the way to State Road 2.
