LA PORTE, Ind. -- The Indiana Department of Transportation announced S.R. 39 between S.R. 2 and 18th Street will close on or after July 14 through early August.

INDOT says the work includes pipe replacement and intersection widening.

Motorists are asked to seek alternate routes or use the official detour which follows S.R. 2, US 35, and US 6.

Officials say this is part of the US 35/Indiana Avenue pavement replacement and utilities project from Boyd Boulevard to S.R. 2/Lincolnway.

INDOT says widening the intersection of S.R. 2 and S.R. 39 is necessary to accommodate vehicles along the detour route for upcoming US 35 closures.

The US 35 work began with a lane closure for storm sewer installation and will move to a full road closure for reconstruction of the intersection of Kingsbury Avenue, Woodlawn Drive, and US 35.

INDOT says that project will then continue with pavement replacement on US 35 between Woodlawn Drive and South Avenue.
