Section of C.R. 142 to close until further notice due to bridge beam deterioration

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Elkhart County Commissioners announced Bridge 322 on C.R. 142 between C.R. 42 and C.R. 29 will be closed to eastbound traffic until further notice.

Officials say the westbound lane will remain open.

The closure is the result of engineers determining a concrete beam was deteriorated to the point where the eastbound lane should not be utilized.

Elkhart County has met with a consulting engineering firm to begin designing necessary improvements to the bridge immediately.

After the design is completed, officials say improvements are expected to be made in the spring and summer months.
