Bremen High School wipes traditional TPing prank
BREMEN, Ind. -- Late last week, Bremen High School announced it will be implementing a new policy this fall that is putting a stop to TPing the school as part of a senior tradition.
While the tradition has been around for decades at Bremen, school officials say the tradition apparently has gotten out of hand and turned into vandalism.
“Cause it’s fun but only in prank week. You’re not trying to make the whole school messy but prank week, it’s in the name prank week,” said Gabby, a parent and former student of Bremen High School.
The classic prank of TPing involves throwing toilet paper into trees or across buildings, usually harmless fun. Gabby said she was punished for it.
“Detention ... for a week,” she said.
Bremen High maintenance staffers are used to erasing the damage even when it goes beyond just toilet paper.
“They do a phenomenal job of cleaning it up and so then people think it’s just TP hanging there, but that’s all that is left of this, and it’s not,” said Bremen High School Principal Andrew Rohde.
Last spring, the front of the building was covered in dozens of raw eggs, a stove filled with cement which led to landscaping and property damage.
“It was just time to say enough is enough…We like to think of ourselves as a big family here and when we're not taking care of our house, I don’t think that we are doing a good job,” Rohde said.
To celebrate the start of classes this year, some students gathered to play games in the school parking lot without incident.
“I’m all for it," Rohde said. "If I would have known that they were coming to the parking lot and play frisbee and cornhole, I would’ve said let’s bring a grill and have fun, let’s have a cookout.”
He hopes his students continue to find ways to have fun together without any damage to school property.
