SBPD makes first arrest with drone assistance, pursuit leads to recovery of stolen firearm
St. Joseph County Jail: Anthony Bridges SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department reports on Thursday, officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a man operating a motorized minibike around 2:50 p.m., near Marine Street and Haney Avenue.
Police say the stop was attempted due to the bike not having a license plate.
The report states the suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Anthony Bridges, failed to stop, leading to a pursuit.
During the pursuit, police say Bridges cut through yards, onto sidewalks, and eventually onto the pedestrian path off Northside Boulevard.
Police then terminated the pursuit.
Authorities say a drone pilot was following the pursuit and continued tracking the suspect's location with the drone.
The drone eventually found Bridges hiding in the 600 block of River Avenue and communicated the location to officers.
Police arrived and Bridges was taken into custody.
While Bridges was being detained, police say they found he possessed a firearm, later found to have been stolen from Mishawaka.
The minibike was found to have no plate or VIN.
Bridges was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on preliminary charges connected to the pursuit.
Bridges now awaits a formal charging decision from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
