Prosecutor's office releases update on investigation into Dante Kittrell's shooting

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office has provided an update to the investigation into the fatal shooting of Dante Kittrell on July 29 by officers with the South Bend Police Department.

The St. Joseph County Police and Mishawaka Police are conducting a joint investigation into the shooting.

Investigators have told the prosecutor's office they are waiting for results of ballistic testing before they can submit their case.

Normally all ballistic testing is conducted by the crime lab at the South Bend Police Department.

An independent expert with Firearm Forensics will also be examining the ballistic evidence.

Once the results of the ballistic testing are released sometime next week, investigators will present the case to the prosecutor's office.

The prosecutor's office will discuss the findings with Kittrell's family and the South Bend Police Department before releasing any other information, they said.
