Preventing pumpkin rot
I carved my pumpkin last night, really a great time carving the pumpkin but there's a couple of thighs that we got to remember to keep these jack o lanterns as fresh as possible. Now I’d say most people had carved their pumpkins this weekend, but if you’ve been holding out, make sure you're washing your pumpkin with a diluted bleach compound to try and keep them fresher longer. Uncarved pumpkins can last for a month or so without getting too mushy, but once you start carving the pumpkin you’ve got two weeks tops. Pumpkins also rot due to warm and wet conditions, and we haven’t seen wet conditions in Michiana, but definitely these warm and sunny days we’re expecting will accelerate the process. Try and keep your pumpkin out of direct sunlight. Flame-lit candles also may not be the way to go, with again the warm conditions in the jack o lantern not helping but also, we are seeing windy conditions for the next couple of days. The wind would likely extinguish the candle, and your pumpkin won’t be as lit. The burn ban NOW INCLUDES candles inside of pumpkins, so that adds another reason to use an LED.
