Prayers pouring in for Michiana basketball coach fighting for his life following crash
SAINT JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Prayers are pouring in for a Michiana basketball coach who was critically injured in a weekend crash and still fighting for his life.
Coach Brian Foster of Ancilla College and Marian High School got hit by a semi-truck Friday night, according to his family.
Family members say he suffered severe injuries to the neck.
He has already survived emergency surgery, but more are looming.
A Community Mass was held at Marian High School Monday in honor of Brian Foster, as well as a Rosary on Sunday.
"We are asking our Lord to hear our prayers and to be with each of us to be with Brian and with his family as well," a Catholic priest said during the Mass.
There's no such thing as too many prayers right now for the Foster family.
"We're just appreciative of all the prayers everyone's been sending, and I have a lot of faith and hope that everything's going in the right direction," says Nevaeh Foster, Brian's daughter.
Nevaeh and her younger brother Brandon sat in the Mass Monday to raise up prayers for their father.
Foster is currently in a coma and on a ventilator but underwent a critical surgery Sunday which was a success.
"He definitely got over the biggest hump he could have got over, so it was very successful, we just know it's going to continue to get better from here on out," Foster explains.
As a beloved coach, teacher, and mentor in the Michiana basketball community, the support is pouring in from all sides as the Foster family navigates a long road to recovery ahead.
"The impact he's given to the community basketball wise and not basketball wise is insane. But that's him; he's a good, genuine person who loves everyone, and I just appreciate everyone willing to share things, reaching out, and pray, and you know that's why he is moving forward," says Foster. "These next few months just looks like day by day he's going to be healing, getting better, and being here with us."
Nevaeh says her father has another crucial surgery scheduled for Tuesday.
A GoFundMe has been made to help out the Fosters with unexpected expenses and ongoing daily needs as they focus on being by his side in recovery.
