NOW: Power problems persist throughout Michiana

GRANGER, Ind. -- Severe storms rolled across Michiana Sunday evening, leaving several thousand without power in southern Michigan and northern Indiana.

Midwest Energy & Communications (MEC) is one such company working to reestablish power in southwestern Michigan, especially in Edwardsburg after an EF-1 tornado was confirmed by the National Weather Service (NWS) on Monday evening.

Amy Pales, the Director of Corporate Communications and Marketing for MEC, said that as of Monday afternoon, the company's line workers still had to visit over 130 different locations to restore power.

MEC hopes to have power restored to more than 95% of customers by Wednesday night (April 2).

Granger, the site of a NWS storm survey on Monday, experienced straight-line damaging winds that uprooted dozens of 20+ ft tall trees.

Some residents as far north as Niles reported their windows were blown out by the strong winds from the line of storms that impacted Granger.
