Potawatomi Zoo announces free Children's Day June 11

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Potawatomi Zoo announced on Wednesday that their annual free-admission Children's Day will be on June 11 this year.
Zoo officials say, from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., entry to the zoo will be free to kids ages 14 and under on that Wednesday. While kids get in free, they still need to be accompanied by an adult.
“We love this partnership with United Federal Credit Union because it allows us to share the zoo with children who might not otherwise get to visit,” said Potawatomi Zoo Executive Director Josh Sisk.
“It’s another great way for us to foster curiosity about wild animals and wild spaces.”
Officials say all regular zoo attractions, concessions, and the gift shop will be open during Children’s Day and that Zoo Keeper Chats will be available at 11:30 a.m. by the African lion habitat and 2:30 p.m. near the North American porcupine.
During the day, event sponsor United Federal Credit Union will be giving away bags to children while supplies last and will contribute $5 to every new Youth Savings Account that is opened at one of their locations, when a coupon is presented from the event.
“Our team is excited for our fourth year of sponsoring Children’s Day at the Potawatomi Zoo,” said United’s Senior Relationship Development Manager Jacob Alexander.
“It has been amazing to see the response to this event year after year, and we can’t wait to see everyone! At United, our commitment goes beyond serving our members; we are dedicated to uplifting the entire community. Supporting the Zoo in providing a day of joy for families in the South Bend area is a fantastic way to contribute to making our community an even better place to live!"
Potawatomi Zoo disclaims that attractions, stroller rentals, the gift shop, and concessions are not part of admission, and the free admission doesn’t extend to group tours or field trips.
The zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (last admission at 7:30) from June 1 through Aug. 31, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Nov. 1-23.
