Indiana Michigan Power ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. -- Late Friday afternoon, severe weather and strong winds moved through northern Indiana and southwest Michigan, affecting portions of Indiana Michigan Power's (I&M) territory.
As of 7:30 p.m., approximately 5,200 customers in the Three Rivers area were without service.
A restoration team of 135 Indiana Michigan Power personnel, tree trimmers, and business partners are set to work through the night to clear electrical hazards from streets and homes.
Indiana Michigan Power has safety tips during this time:
- Stay away from downed wires and report them to I&M at 1-800-311-4634 or contact your local police department.
- If a stoplight is out of service, treat it as a stop sign. Take it slow on the roads.
- The public is urged to not approach I&M crews while they are working.
- While using a generator, connect all appliances directly to it. Do not connect the generator's electrical output to any home of building electrical circuits. Do not use gas powered generators in enclosed or partially enclosed spaces, like a garage or a home.
