Tornado analysis: Looking back at the radar from Friday afternoon
It all happened so quickly, it really did. At 3:00 PM there was little sign of any tornado signature by 3:10 a tornado was forming or on the ground by the time the first tornado touched down at 3:14 PM. May have only been on the ground for 5 minutes before lifting and the cell went through an up cycle. There were numerous reports in the Edwardsburg area of damage to homes and trees that fell across roadways.
The next tornado happened in Three Rivers with a likely touchdown around 3:52 PM. Severe damage was observed around the Menard's.
The storm likely went through a third cycle where the tornado lifted, then intensified and touched down in Union City, in Branch Co Michigan. This may be the worst damage of the three touchdowns we know of, there were as of the writing of this article three reported fatalities.
The National Weather Service of Northern Indiana will be doing storm surveys of these areas on Saturday.
Official determination the strength, number, deration or even number of these tornadoes cannot happen until after a storm survey analyzes the damage. This may take a number of days.
