Cass county responds to tornado damage near Edwardsburg

The Cass county emergency coordinator tells us tornados are happening more often in Michiana and the focus is how to better prepare for these natural disasters.

Manny Delarosa, Cass county emergency coordinator said Friday evening.
"Unfortunately, this has been happening for the last four years straight where we've had some straight line winds, tornado significant to the point where I'm coming out, the red cross is coming out. Seems to, seems to be happening a lot more frequent, unfortunately. So we are definitely, we have been looking at this for the last several years, and do we need to improve our plans? Do we need to make some adjustments? How can we be better prepared? And we're getting there, and this response today has been actually very well.

The American red cross was here in Edwardsburg helping to assess damage and going door to door speaking with the people who were impacted and checking to see whether they need to relocate.
While these professionals are prepared for this type of situation.. One woman was left shaken up when she learned about what happened from her son.

"We just finished a follow up with my foot. *and i called my son, and he's like, mom, we just had a tornado. And i'm like, are you okay? Is everybody okay? And he said, yeah. And he's like, but norma and donna lost a garage. There's trees down everywhere. My husband, i just took off and came home. I'm just glad that my kids okay and my neighbors are okay. It's just unbelievable." said Kelly Andrews.

The Cass county emergency coordinator says if there's anyone who needs assistance, call one 800 red cross, open up a ticket, and they can help you find resources.
