Police say one person's injuries are now life-threatening after six-vehicle crash in Elkhart

ELKHART, Ind. - One person's injuries are now being called potentially life-threatening after being involved in a six-vehicle crash at the intersection of East Bristol Street and Osolo Road, Tuesday afternoon.

The Elkhart Police are actively investigating the six-vehicle crash that occurred around 12:10 p.m.

Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a 911 call of an accident with injuries at the intersection of East Bristol Street and Osolo Road.

Elkhart Police Departments and Elkhart Police Department Fire medics arrived shortly thereafter.

Authorities observed a GMC Acadia against a pole on the northwest side of the intersection, upon arrival.

The driver of the Acadia, an adult man, was trapped in the vehicle and was extricated by fire department personnel. He was the only occupant.

That driver was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment of a serious head laceration and other injuries.

His injuries were initially believed to be non-life threatening but are now being called potentially life-threatening.

Authorities' initial investigation indicates that the Acadia struck two vehicles, a Honda Accord and a Chrysler Pacific.

Police say this action allegedly pushed the Accord into two other vehicles. After this initial crash, the Acadia also struck a Ford F-250 pickup.

The F-250 then spun out and stopped on the opposite side of the intersection.

Authorities say there were no other serious injuries reported.

The Elkhart Crash Reconstruction Team was activated and is handling the investigation.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Anyone with information can call the Elkhart Police Department at 574-295-7070.
