MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police Department reports the La Porte County E-911 Regional Dispatch Center received a call regarding a person being shot in building 12 of the Garden Estates West apartment complex around 12:20 a.m. Friday.

Police say they arrived on scene and found a 15-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound.

First responders provided life-saving measures on the victim before being transferred to Franciscan Health Hospital in Michigan City for further treatment.

Police say the victim later died at the hospital due to their injuries.

Detectives from the Investigative Division were summoned to the scene and are investigating.
