UPDATE: The Michigan City Police Department reports the body located in a ditch on the side of S.R. 212 in the 700 block Monday afternoon has been identified as 31-year-old Gregory Wyse of Michigan City.

Authorities' initial investigation determined Wyse was walking south along the road when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle also traveling south on S.R. 212.

The vehicle then left the scene.

A section of S.R. 212 was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene and collected pieces of evidence. 

Police say no further information will be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation. 

Authorities say there's no known threat to public safety at this time.

ORIGINAL STORY: MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police Department reports officers responded to the scene of a death investigation around 3:14 p.m., Monday, in the 700 block or S.R. 212.

Police say one person was found dead.

The investigation is ongoing.

MCPD's Investigative Division, along with the La Porte County Coroner's Office, was also summoned to the scene.

No other information is available at this time.
