Police investigate an armed robbery in Elkhart

Police are investigating an armed robbery that happened on Tuesday.



Just before 10 a.m., police responded to the Sam Winer Co. at 923 Edwardsburg Avenue. Police got a call saying the employees had just been robbed at gunpoint!



Police say two black men entered the office area of the business and demanded money. One of the suspects had a handgun. There was exchange of gunfire, but no one was injured. The two men ran from the scene, but witnesses did not see which way they went. One employee was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for minor injuries.



The first suspect was a black man between the ages of 18 and 25. He was 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 tall, and 120-150 lbs. He was wearing a gray and white striped hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.



Police describe the second suspect as a light-skinned black man also between the ages of 18 and 25. He was 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 tall, and 120-150 lbs. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with white lettering on the front and blue jeans.



Police also say that there are some similarities between this robbery and the one that occurred on May 6, 2011, at the Sam Winer Co. It is unknown at this time if they are connected.
