Plymouth High School holds 14th Annual Dance Marathon for Riley Children's Hospital
PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- It’s not just about the music and dancing, it’s about making a difference.
For 14 years Plymouth High School has hosted its Dance Marathon raising thousands for Riley’s Children Hospital.
The founder of the Plymouth Dance Marathon, Hanna Jacobs, with a small group of students in 2012, set out to make a change when they started with this tradition.
“My sister actually went to Ball State. She was at their marathon and called me one night and said, 'I have to start this,' so between her, Amy Courteous, and one of the high school students as well, we started the marathon all together,” said Jacobs. “Students had a big goal. We had a goal of $10,000 and we suppressed that.”
Jacobs has been treated at the hospital since she was a child and feels that it is important to give back to Riley’s Children Hospital.
Since the first marathon Plymouth High School has been able to raise over $30,000 helping find vital care and services to support children living with serious illnesses at Riley’s Children Hospital.
This year students like Kaydence Spencer, the head of fundraising at Plymouth High School, are stepping out of class to dance and bring hope, joy, and support to Riley kids.
"I’m really excited to see it come together. We've done many different minis at Lincoln and at Riverside and I'm really excited to see everyone come together and just show your support for Riley’s," said Spencer.
Officials say once students watch videos and learn the impact they made, it will be easier to grasp what they've accomplished.
