PLYMOUTH, Ind. --The Office of Plymouth Mayor Robert Listenberger announced Plymouth Building Commissioner Dennis Manuwal received a complaint on July 12, regarding unsafe building conditions at The Pointe apartment complex at 309 Gibson Street.

An inspection was then conducted by the Marshall County Health Department and the City of Plymouth Building Commission.

City officials say it was determined a stray electrical current was being conducted through metal pipes in the building.

Manuwal then ordered electricity to be shut off until the problem could be fixed.

Residents were then displaced due to the lack of electricity.

Officials say the electrical issues were fixed and power was restored, but further unsafe conditions were uncovered during the repair. It was found the roof was damaged and leaking.

When working with a roofing contractor to assess the necessary repairs, officials say even more unsafe conditions were revealed.

On Tuesday, Manuwal issued an order to vacate the building until all unsafe conditions could be addressed and repaired.

It's currently deemed unsafe for residents to return to The Pointe.

The City of Plymouth remains in contact with the property owner to determine the feasibility and timeline for making the complex safe and habitable.

Community organizations like United Way, Link to Hope, and Center Township Trustee have joined in to assist residents in finding temporary housing solutions while repairs occur.
