Petition filed to remove Baugo Township Trustee
BAUGO TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- A formal petition was filed in court to remove the elected Baugo Township Trustee, Katherine Weaver.
A State Audit shows at least $417,925 of excess spending by the township in the past 5 years, leaving major discrepancies between the ending and beginning balances of the year.
A 2023 state audit revealed the Baugo Township’s annual financial report "...contained errors and did not reflect the financial activity of the Township. Transfers were not properly recorded... Additionally, distributions received from the County Auditor were not properly recorded."
ABC57 reached out to the Trustees office, who declined comment.
The petition is being brought forward by Peter Colan, who had served on the Township Board with Weaver for the past 2 years.
The petition reads, "...we, the undersigned, having diligently examined the evidence provided by Petitioner, do
hereby agree that the Baugo Township Trustee should be removed from duty because of her incapacity
to properly conduct the Township’s business in accordance with her duties. The position would be
better served by someone who can more easily navigate the complexities of compliance with state
requirements, meeting protocols, software, and reporting”.
Colan said this is not what he wants to do, but it must be done going on to say,
“As a representative of the constituents they deserve the best effort that trustee could put out and I just don’t see that happening”.
The next court date is scheduled for December 13th, with an Evidentiary Hearing set for January 24th.
