UPDATE: Temporary boil water advisory lifted for Elkhart
ELKHART, Ind. -- UPDATE: The City of Elkhart Public Works and Utilities Department announced it has completed its analysis of the water quality for the public water system.
Officials say all quality tests have passed and there is no public health concern.
Following the tests, the temporary boil water advisory has been canceled as of Saturday just before 5 p.m.
ORIGINAL STORY: The City of Elkhart Public Works and Utilities Department announce on Thursday that a new boil water order has been put in place as a precautionary measure.
All water from the municipal water system should be boiled for three minutes before use.
The affected area is:
- S 2nd Street from W Lexington Avenue to W Marion Street
- S 3rd Street from W Lexington Avenue to W Franklin Street
- S 4th Street from W Lexington Avenue to W Franklin Street
- W High Street from S 5th Street to S 2nd Street
- W Franklin Street from S 4th St to S 2nd Street
City officials say the reason for the boil advisory is a water main break that has left some customers without water. That water service was restored by 4 p.m. Thursday.
This boil water order is expected to be in place until Saturday night (Oct. 19) but will remain in effect until the city issues an official statement lifting it.
For health-related questions and concerns, city officials say to seek medical advice from your health care provider or Elkhart County Health Department.
Restaurants in the affected area can contact the Elkhart County Health Department at (574) 971-4600 for instructions on operating.
For other questions on the boil order, contact the Public Works Administrative Office at (574)293-2572.
