UPDATE: Two-vehicle crash that closed part of U.S. 20 Monday remains under investigation

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- UPDATE: The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office reports officers with the St. Joseph County Police Department responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Walnut Street around 12:09 p.m., Monday.
Officers arrived to find two pickup trucks had collided.
The initial investigation determined a truck, driven by 26-year-old Alejandro Lopez of Highland, Ind., was attempting to make a westbound turn onto U.S. 20 from Walnut Street.
Lopez then turned into the path of a 65-year-old Walkerton man, who was driving a pickup truck pulling a trailer, traveling east on U.S. 20.
Lopez suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital, where his condition has since improved, according to authorities.
The Walkerton man suffered minor injuries and was cooperative with police.
Authorities say the investigation showed no signs of impairment.
The crash remains under investigation by the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team.
ORIGINAL STORY: The St. Joseph County Police Department reports U.S. 20 between Spruce and Walnut is currently closed due to a two-vehicle crash which occurred around 12:09 p.m., Monday.
Police say a pickup truck pulling a trailer was heading east on U.S. 20 towards South Bend, when another pickup truck heading north on Walnut turned left onto U.S. 20 towards New Carlisle.
The vehicles collided and police say the drivers of each truck were taken to the hospital.
The truck driver pulling the trailer received minor injuries.
Police are currently awaiting an update on the second driver's condition.
The St. Joseph County FACT Team is investigating.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area as of 1:30 p.m., Monday.
