Oregon-Davis High School teacher investigated after alleged inappropriate relations with student
HAMLET, Ind. - Allegations have come to light against an Oregon-Davis High School teacher.
The school says they received information about a teacher having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
The School Corporation made calls to the homes of families in the district saying the teacher is no longer employed as the investigation remains active.
The case is being handled by the Oregon-Davis Police Department after the school corporation started their own department back in 2022.
ABC57 reached out to them, as well as the Starke County Sherriff’s Office, whose detectives are assisting with the investigation.
ABC57 also reached out to the Starke County Prosecutor's Office, and the Hamlet Police Department, who all directed us back to Superintendent of Oregon-Davis School Corporation, Bill Bennett.
Bennett provided us with this statement saying, “Administrators at Oregon-Davis Jr./Sr. High School received information in regard to allegations made against a teacher who was having an inappropriate relationship with a student. Upon receiving this information, school personnel immediately contacted the Indiana Department of Child Services, the student’s guardians, and engaged law enforcement to begin an investigation into the matter. The employee was immediately put on leave and is no longer employed by the school."
This message is similar to the one left to parents in the district.
Oregon-Davis Schools is cooperating fully with the investigating authorities. Due to the active nature of this investigation, no further details can be provided at this time.
The name of the teacher has not been confirmed at this time.
