'No King' rallies across Michiana Saturday
ABC57-- Protests erupted across the country Saturday in response to President Trump's military parade. Many participated in "No King" rallies across Michiana.
One such rally was in South Bend, with a crowd of hundreds gathered downtown.
Robert Ducomb Jr. was one of the protesters, who said he served in Indiana state legislature from 1972 until 1982, where he sponsored the equal rights amendment for Hoosiers.
"I was a Republican, but I no longer can identify with what the Republican party is doing and what it stands for, and I'm out here to protest a lot of the absurdities going on right now," he said.
The South Bend protest was organized by the Michiana Alliance for Democracy.
Up in Niles, another "No King" rally was organized by Coalition 4 Democracy, which saw its largest crowd yet with more than 500 people in attendance.
"I'm older, but I have kids and grandkids, and if we don't do something, there won't be a democracy left for them to live in," said protester Margo Green.
"We're mobilizing and preparing for the midterms," said organizer Angela Jones.
Up the street a bit in Niles, at Veterans Memorial Park, a smaller demonstration of about 30 folks took place to celebrate President Trump and the army's 250th birthday.
"We planned it actually as a birthday party for our president, and when I realized that it was the army's birthday, I wanted to focus more on that," said organizer Carla Johnson.
