No. 7 Notre Dame sets program scoring record in 28-9 win over Bellarmine
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The No. 7 Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team delivered a historic offensive performance Tuesday afternoon in its home opener, defeating Bellarmine 28-9 at Arlotta Stadium.
The 28 goals marked the highest-scoring game in program history, surpassing a record that had stood for nearly 43 years. The previous mark of 28 goals was set in 1983.
Junior attack Brock Behrman led the way with a game-high seven points, finishing with four goals and three assists — both career highs.
“It’s a good bounce back from Marquette,” Behrman said. “Offensively, I don’t think we played to our standard so bouncing back for a game like this — playing well together, keeping it simple — that’s something we’re looking to build off of.”
Will Maheras and Jalen Seymour each recorded the first hat tricks of their careers, scoring three goals apiece. And in total, 16 different Notre Dame players found the back of the net, and nine recorded multiple goals in a balanced team effort.
The Fighting Irish now improve to 7-0 all-time against Bellarmine and move to 42-4 in home openers, including a 35-3 mark under head coach Kevin Corrigan.
“We just wanted to concentrate on ourselves,” Corrigan said. “We felt like we were probably a better team if we just played our game and it’s hard to do that sometimes, to keep the focus and do that well so I’m proud of our guys particularly through the first half.”
With the win, Notre Dame is 2-0 on the season, returning to action Thursday at home against Georgetown.
