SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The nationwide program ‘Coaches vs Cancer' kicked off in Michiana Mon. evening with ‘A Celebration of Hope’, hosted by Notre Dame men's basketball head coach, Micah Shrewsberry.

The two-day fundraiser features two different events, the first, Night of the Stars, was held at the Four Winds Casino Hotel Mon. and has already raised $510,000 for the American Cancer Society (ACS).

“We did an event while I was at Penn State and head coach there… but when I took the job here, I know Coach [Mike] Brey was really instrumental here in the Michiana area and I want to kind of continue that tradition in what he’s built upon and what…they’ve been able to do here in this area,” said Coach Shrewsberry.

The dinner featured awards for four local community members who are making contributions in some way to the fight against cancer, a silent auction, and a live auction.

“…really great two days for us and this dinner is a great program, we get a chance to honor people in the community… that are helping, that are playing a large part in…really trying to help fight cancer in this area,” shared Coach Shrewsberry.

Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Classic takes place Tues. morning at a new venue, Warren Golf Course. Click here to learn more.
