MAY 22 UPDATE: On Thursday, the Mishawaka Police Department confirmed the identity of the 16-year-old victim as Victor Smith-Moreland, who was a sophomore at Mishawaka High School.
MHS brought in grief counselors for any student or staff that needs to speak with someone about what happened.
"They will be available all day today at least," authorities said.
MAY 21 ORIGNAL: MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The Mishawaka Police Department responded to a train collision at the intersection of Merrifield Ave and 4th street. The call came in at approximately 3:20p.m. A sixteen year old male was crossing the tracks when he was struck by the train as it traveled eastbound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several witnesses were interviewed by police and no foul play is suspected at this time. The name will not be released at this time out of respect for the family.
