Morning crash leads to arrest in Crown Point

CROWN POINT, Ind. -- At approximately 4:50 am., on Sunday morning, Trooper Jaylen Holt-Terry as traveling eastbound on 93 Avenue in Crown Point.

As he proceeded through the intersection at Monroe Street, a 2017 Cadillac XT5 lost control, slid through the intersection, and struck the passenger side of the fully marked police charger. 

Trooper Jarah Burgin responded to the crash investigation. Probable cause was established to initiate an Operating While Intoxicated investigation into the driver of the Cadillac, identified as Javan L. Mason, a 45-year-old man of Crown Point. 

Based on Trooper Burgin's observations, a certified chemical test for intoxication was offered. Mason registered a 0.17 percent B.A.C, more than twice the legal limit of 0.8 percent in Indiana. 

He was transported to the Lake County jail, where he was charged for Operating While Intoxicated - Class A Misdemeanor. 

Trooper Holt-Terry was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and was later released.
