Elkhart County Jail ELKHART, Ind. -- We're learning more details about the circumstances surrounding the arrest of an Elkhart police officer.
30-year-old Tyler Koeppel was arrested Monday, July 6, on two counts of Invasion of Privacy.
According to newly released documents, the first alleged victim filed a protection order against Koeppel that was served July 6 around 12:18 p.m. Koeppel allegedly violated the order about 10 minutes later by texting them and later sending a location-sharing request.
The alleged victim later told police that Koeppel had messaged her multiple times that morning before the papers were served. They claim Koeppel told them he was outside by the mailboxes and asking her to come out; he also allegedly offered to leave things at the accuser's apartment. Koeppel was allegedly parked in his vehicle in front of his apartment facing the alleged victim's apartment, which is nearby.
Documents also say a second alleged victim had filed a protection order against Koeppel, which was delivered at roughly the same time as the first. This alleged victim claims they also received a text from Koeppel about 10 minutes after the order was delivered.
Koeppel allegedly later told officers that, before the incident, he used his police credentials to login to the protection order registry. This would have given him prior knowledge of the orders before they were delivered.
Koeppel remains on leave as the investigation continues.
