WINAMAC, Ind. -- Heavy rainfall Tuesday left roads and parking lots flooded across Winamac, forcing some businesses to close early and blocking portions of several streets.
Pulaski County received around 6 inches of rain, leaving standing water across parts of town.
“We’re flooded out,” said Kelsie Gainer, a bartender at the VFW.
“It was running through the front door,” said Jason Stavedahl, an auxiliary member at the VFW. “It wasn’t bad at first but then all of a sudden it just hit and it just started coming in the front door.”
Several locations around Winamac were marked with high-water signs warning drivers to use caution. Some roads and parking areas were completely inaccessible.
Gainer and Stavedahl said flooding is not unusual in some parts of town, but Tuesday’s rainfall was more severe than what they typically see.
“We’re used to Casey’s flooding and stuff, but this is a lot,” Gainer said.
Flooding concerns were expected to continue as more rain remained in the forecast for Pulaski County.
Drivers traveling through flooded areas are urged to use caution and avoid roads covered by standing water.
