Mushing 101 class at River Preserve County Park Saturday

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Elkhart County Parks has partnered with Heartland Mushers Association to offer a Mushing 101 class at Benton Dam in River Preserve County Park on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Organizers say the dog sledding lessons will cover the basics of dryland mushing, including gear use with bikes and Canicross.

Dog owners are invited to bring their four-legged friends and see if they have what it takes to mush through a series of training techniques and try out a temporary dryland trail.

Organizers will have experienced mushers on-hand throughout the program to assist participants.

The class is $10 per person and is open to ages 12 and up.

Dogs must weigh at least 15 pounds to participate and on a leash six feet or less while on the preserve.

Organizers say the program limit is one dog per person, or participating family.

The last day to register is Wednesday, Nov. 13. You can register here.

Attendees will meet at the Benton Dam site in River Preserve County Park, located south of Goshen at 68550 C.R. 31.
