Motorcyclist taken to a hospital after a crash

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- A driver of a motorcycle was injured after crashing into a guard rail Thursday evening.

Police were called to a reported motorcycle accident on Sunset Blvd near US-12 in Porter Township.

Todd Vankirk of Edwardsburg, Michigan was the motorcyclist injured in the crash.

Police report that Vankirk was heading north on Sunset Blvd when he swerved around an animal that ran out in front of him.

After avoiding the collision with the animal, police report that Vankirk crossed the median and crashed into the west guard rail.

Vankirk was then transported to Elkhart General Hospital for his injuries.

Police say they do not suspect drugs or alcohol to be a factor in this crash.
