Motorcyclist seriously injured in crash involving three vehicles

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.— A motorcyclist is in critical condition after a three-vehicle crash on Thursday evening, according to the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team.

On October 8, around 5:43 p.m., officers were sent to E. Lasalle Ave. and N. Niles Ave. for a crash involving three vehicles.

At the scene, officers found a Jeep with damage to its right front side and two damaged motorcycles.

The Jeep was found to have been traveling east on Lasalle and when it attempted to make a left turn onto Niles, the crash occurred with the first motorcycle.

The impact of the first crash caused the first motorcycle to hit a second bike, police said.

The 28-year-old Jeep driver and 44-year-old driver of the second motorcycle sustained minor injuries.

FACT said that the first motorcycle driver, a 37-year-old South Bend man, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and at last check, remained in critical condition.

The Jeep driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

The crash remains under investigation.
