ABC 57

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office responded to a personal injury crash Wednesday morning that involved a motorist failing to yield the right of way to a motorcycle, resulting in the driver of the motorcycle being taken to the hospital.

At roughly 11:35 a.m. on March 12, deputies were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 35 and C.R. 400 South for reports of a crash.

Authorities say an initial on-scene investigation determined a white 2023 Ford, being driven by 68-year-old Amy M. Kollar, of La Porte, was in the process of turning left from southbound U.S. 35 to eastbound C.R. 400 South.

"While doing so, Kollar failed to yield to a motorcycle traveling northbound on U.S. 35 causing the crash to occur," the LCSO said.

The blue 1993 Yamaha motorcycle was being driven by 30-year-old Alec A. Tucker, of Kingsford Heights.

He was transported by ground from the scene for treatment but later died from his injuries at a local hospital.

Kollar was not injured during the crash.

Authorities say toxicology test results are pending and no further information is available for release.

Also on Wednesday, two motorcyclists were killed in Elkhart County when their motorcycle collided with a minivan on C.R. 18, just west of C.R. 117.

In that crash, authorities have initially determined the driver of the minivan also failed to yield the right of way to the motorcycle.

"[The Chrysler] turned left in front of [the Harley], failing to yield the right of way," authorities said. [The Harley] was laid down but continued west and struck [the Chrysler]."

The driver of the motorcycle was identified 41-year-old Jason E Bleiler, of Goshen, and his passenger was identified as 38-year-old Crystal Woolums, of Leesburg, Ind.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

On Feb. 25, a 17-year-old motorcycle driver was killed in Elkhart County a 54-year-old Goshen woman, driving a 2006 Ford Mustang, was found to be under the influence of cannabis when she pulled out of a private driveway into the path of the motorcycle.

The driver of the Ford was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death.

Four motorcyclists have been struck and killed in Michiana in the last 16 days. In all three crashes, initial investigation determined another driver failed to yield the right of way to the motorcycle driver.
