ZIONSVILLE, Ind. -- Thousands of freshmen are starting their college careers this week, moving into dorms and living on their own for the first time. One Indiana mom wants to remind teens to stay safe after she lost her daughter during IU Bloomington's 2013 welcome week.
19-year-old Rachael Fiege died when she fell down a flight of stairs.
Her friends waited hours to call 911 because they were scared they would get in trouble for underage drinking.
It's why Rachael's mom started a program called "Rachel's First Week" that helps mentor high schoolers on some of the dangerous behavior.
She hopes it will help prevent another tragedy.
Sunday marks a year since Rachael's death.
