Millrace pedestrian path reopens early as Wellington Ditch project nears completion

GOSHEN, Ind. -- The City of Goshen announced the Millrace Canal pedestrian and bike path has reopened weeks ahead of schedule following the near completion of the Wellington Ditch Maintenance Project.
The path from Westwood Road to the bridge just south of Douglas Street originally closed in early April and was expected to last through late May.
City staff and representatives from the project's contractor conducted a final walkthrough of the Wellington Ditch site last week to review progress and remaining tasks, officials said.
The contractor agreed to remove wood debris and take down all "Path Closed" and detour signage.
The contractor will return in the coming weeks to complete minor stabilization work, but all major construction and equipment removal are complete.
City officials say visitors to the area may notice a more open view of the Wellington Ditch, exposed woody debris, lower water levels, and increased water flow.
Residents are encouraged to report downed trees or new obstructions to the city’s Stormwater Department at 574-537-3832.
Officials say the Wellington Ditch project was designed to improve drainage and water quality through long-term maintenance of the ditch corridor while ensuring safe access and use of the community trail.
