Michigan City police warn residents of scam

Michigan City Police are warning residents about home improvement scammers.

One recent victim lost $3,800 after a fake home improvement con artist claiming he did work that was never done. 

Officers have tips to avoid scams:

• Be skeptical of door-to-door sales or cold calls
• Get a contract in writing because Indiana Law requires home improvement contracts exceeding $150 to be in writing
• Don’t make the final payment to the contractor after signing until you know all subcontractors and/or suppliers have been paid
