Meet SBCSC interim superintendent Mansour Eid
SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- The South Bend Community School Corporation board elected Mansour Eid as acting superintendent Wednesday. Thursday, he sat down with ABC57's Annie Kate to discuss his goals for the district.
Eid is a former principal of the now-shuttered Clay High School. He spoke on what he calls his success at Clay.
"I was appointed principal of Clay August 4," Eid said. "On September 1, I received a letter from the state that we were on academic probation, which meant if we did not improve the scores, the state would take it over. And the state had already taken over Washington and Riley at the time. So, we worked hard, we changed some things, we added others, and we were able to go from 39 percent passing English and math to 72 percent. That was between September and April."
Annie Kate asked Eid his top goals for the district moving forward.
"The top goals, bring everybody together, create some harmony within the district, attract teachers, maybe grow our own teachers," Eid said. "We used to have great programs... We need to bring these back, grow our own teachers. I mean, we are, we are hemorrhaging teachers to other districts that seem to be more attractive because of the chaos and I don't like, I don't see a lot of chaos. Yes, with the closure you know you you're uncertain of your future. You want something guaranteed, so you jump to another district. We want to keep those teachers. We want to bring some back."
