Man, teen reported as runaway taken into custody following Elkhart SWAT situation
ELKHART, Ind. - A 21-year-old man wanted on outstanding warrants and a teenager reported as a runaway out of Michigan were taken into custody Monday afternoon following a SWAT situation on West Lexington Avenue, according to the Elkhart Police Department.
At 2:11 p.m., officers with the Elkhart Police Department tried to arrest Elkhart resident Reeyon Rodrell Young, 21, at a home in the 600 block of W. Lexington.
Officers gave Young verbal commands to exit the residence and when he did not, the Elkhart County SWAT team was called to the scene, reports said.
Following negotiations, Reeyon exited without incident at 3:30 p.m., police said.
A 15-year-old girl who was reported as a runaway out of Michigan also exited the residence at that time.
The girl was unharmed in the incident, police said.
She was taken to the Elkhart County Juvenile Detention Center.
Young was arrested on his three outstanding warrants out of the Elkhart Superior Court and taken to the Elkhart County Jail.
