Man sentenced to jail in connection with 2025 shooting at Jefferson Apartments

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A man was sentenced to over a year in jail for his part in the Oct. 18, 2025, shooting at Jefferson Apartments, which left one person injured.

Documents from St. Joseph County Court reveal Dontrell Jones was sentenced to 2 years in St. Joseph County Jail on Wednesday after being found guilty of Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun-prior felony conviction w/in last 15 years, a Level 5 Felony.

Jones was credited for 212 days in jail, so he will spend the remaining 518 days in jail.

Jones' charges of Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, Intimidation: Where def. draws or uses a deadly weapon, and Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly weapon were dismissed.

Officers with the South Bend Police Department responded to The Jefferson Apartments in the 300 block of Rue Flambeau Street around 9:45 p.m. the day of the shooting.
