Man in serious condition following Thursday morning shooting, police investigating

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police Department reports officers responded to area of 5th Street and Michigan Boulevard around 11:37 a.m. Thursday regarding gunshots.
Moments later, police say the La Porte County 911 Regional Dispatch Center received information that one person had been shot at 5th and Michigan and was being taken to Franciscan Hospital in a personal vehicle.
Authorities' initial investigation determined a 31-year-old Michigan City man was on break from his job at a local business when he and another employee had an argument which culminated him being shot. MCPD initially reported the victim's age as 48.
After being driven to Franciscan Hospital, the victim was transferred by the medical staff to a South Bend hospital for advanced treatment.
Police say he's listed in serious condition.
The Investigative Division was summoned to the scene and took over the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing, and further information will be released when it becomes available.
No arrests have been made at this time.
