Man charged for allegedly sexually abusing a minor for five years
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – One man has been charged with child molestation for his alleged abuse of a minor over about five years, according to the probable cause affidavit.
In September 2018, the victim reported that 48-year-old David Voelkert had been having sexual contact with her beginning at the age of six and ending at the age of 11, according to court documents.
The victim stated that Voelkert made inappropriate contact with her and warned her not to tell anyone, according to court documents.
During an interview with Voelkert, he stated that, with regard to the victim, “whatever she says, I did,” according to court documents.
Voelkert said he did not remember doing some of the things the victim said he did but that the victim was being truthful when she made her allegations, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Voelkert also sent a letter of apology to the victim, saying “your mom is making it out like I hurt you or forced you but you know otherwise,” and also said he was “dealing with a lot of demons” and that he was “sorry that you are the one that I succumbed to have them released,” according to court documents.
Voelkert is charged with two counts of child molesting, according to court documents.
He is currently serving a sentence in Michigan after being convicted of criminal sexual conduct in the 3rd degree, according to the probable cause affidavit.
UPDATE: In November 2021, Voelkert was found guilty of two counts of child molesting. He was sentenced to 35 years for one count of child molesting and 12 years for the second count of child molesting. The sentences will run consecutively at the Indiana Department of Correction.
