Man arrested for allegedly shooting younger brother

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department reports a suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred on Friday, Aug. 1 before midnight.

Police say they responded to the 700 block of S. Grant Street for a reported shooting around 11:40 p.m.

Officers arrived to find a 48-year-old male, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The SBPD Violent Crimes Unit's investigation identified the victim's brother, 53-year-old Donald Simpson II, as a suspect, leading to his subsequent arrest.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office has charged Simpson with Aggravated Battery, Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, and Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon.

Simpson is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
