Man arrested after aiming gun at spouse and threatening to harm police on Valentine's Day

LA PORTE, Ind. -- The La Porte Police Department reports that on the afternoon of Valentine's Day, officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Planett Street regarding a domestic dispute involving a firearm.
The report states upon arrival, officers learned that a man had allegedly pointed a firearm at his spouse and nearby neighbor.
Officers say they spoke with the victims and learned the man was still inside the home with the firearm, refusing to come out.
Authorities say officers tried to get the man to exit, but he continually refused.
More officers then arrived to assist. The La Porte Police Department Emergency Response Team (ERT) was also activated to assist.
The ERT then attempted to negotiate with the man to come outside willingly and surrender.
The report then states the man told members of the ERT that law enforcement would be harmed if they attempted to enter the home.
The ERT then deployed less-lethal chemical munitions into the home, at which point the man surrendered and was taken into custody.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and no further information will be released at this time.
