12 shot, one dead in Elkhart mass shooting

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department confirms that at least 12 people were transported to area hospitals Sunday morning with gunshot wounds.
Of those 12 wounded, one has been pronounced dead, according to officials.
Initial reports led officers to respond in the 300 Block of West Garfield Avenue just after 1:10 a.m. Sunday.
Police say officers have been processing the area between the 200 and 400 block of West Garfield Avenue to gather evidence.
Officials say some of those injured have been treated and released from the hospital.
Upon further investigation, there is indication that multiple individuals discharged firearms during the shooting.
The Elkhart County Homicide Unit has been activated.
