Man accused of murdering child found competent to stand trial

Elkhart County Jail: Miguel Garcia ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A trial date is set after an Elkhart man was found competent to stand trial in a case where he's accused of murdering a 20-month-old child in December 2024.
The suspect, Miguel Garcia, is charged with Murder.
Garcia's trial is set to begin on June 1 at 8:30 a.m.
Court documents reveal the Elkhart police responded to Elkhart General Hospital on Dec. 16, 2024, regarding a young child suffering from a skull fracture.
Garcia was there alongside his girlfriend, the child's mother.
The mom initially told police the child had slipped on hardwood floor at their apartment, documents state.
The child was later taken to Riley's Children Hospital in Indianapolis where they'd be better equipped to handle such injuries.
The child died from his injuries on Dec. 20, 2024.
