STEVENSVILLE, Mich. -- Three local Michigan villages held races for village president on Tuesday and one of them was decided by a single vote.

In Stevensville, Bert Peters won the race for village president with 260 total votes, just one more than candidate Bruce Arter who garnered 259 total votes.

In the Village of Berrien Springs, Sheila Snyder won the race for village president with a total of 413, while candidate Zach Fedoruk received 267 votes.

The Village of Cassopolis reelected president David Johnson with a victory of 326 votes to candidate Jim Pedersen's 251.

While the official title of the winner is Village President, each village has a Village Council that is made up of the president, a president pro-tem, and five council members for a total of seven votes.

The position is comparable to a traditional city mayor.
