ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Chapter of Indiana Black Expo announced on Thursday that it will host its 10th annual "Feed Our Friends Christmas Dinner" and food giveaway at the Historical Roosevelt Gym on Sunday, Dec. 22.

“Over the last 10 years, we have fed over four hundred people each year and that this is truly a community event; without community support, an event of this magnitude could not happen," said Chapter President Robert Taylor.

The event is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. on Dec. 22 with the aim to provide a holiday style meal to the homeless and anyone else looking to just enjoy a delicious meal.

“Holidays are a time when everyone should be able to enjoy a meal and enjoy family. Elkhart is known as the city with a heart, and this is one of those events over the years that has proven that. All the food is donated by local restaurants and people from the community,” Taylor said.

Organizers say this year’s event will include a food pantry provided by Cultivate Food Rescue local residents will be able to pick up a variety of food to take home including bread, frozen items, and protein.

Non-Profit Just Cause will disturb hats, coats, and gloves, and hygiene needs will be passed out along with toys for every child in attendance.

“The demand will be even greater this year due to several places that normally serve meals at this time of year, are not serving so we are expecting even more people to come,” said Taylor. "The phone and emails are coming in at a record pace, so all help is welcome and appreciated."
